Public Art Commission - Civic Plaza Foyer

We are seeking submissions from local artists and organisations to provide public art artwork in the Civic Plaza entrance foyer to replace the existing hanging mobile artworks.

We encourage innovative public art designs that reflect the vibrancy of Palmerston and install excitement and wonder to visitors.

About this commission

Location: Civic Plaza, 1 Chung Wah Terrace, Palmerston City, NT 0830
Budget: < $8,000.00

We're delighted to offer a new art commission, Art Rotations, as a foyer exhibition space.

Located in the Civic Plaza, we invite you to liven up the entrance foyer by creating a new set of public art hanging sculptures.

We will leave the artwork to your imagination, but we encourage brave, stimulating, and innovative designs that will inspire our visitors.

Installing your artworks

Installation will occur after hours when the public does not attend the Civic Plaza.

Prior to installation, our Place and Culture Lead will work with you to confirm the artwork layout and gather special instructions for the installer.

On installation day Artists are encouraged to attend a toolbox meeting but cannot alter the approved artwork layout.

How we select the artist

To select the Artist, Council works with the following criteria:

  1.  Technical capabilities of artists or organisations
  2. Project methodology and understanding including being able to meet timeframes
  3. Local content, including but not limited to employment, up-skilling and local industry participation
  4. Price and value for Palmerston
  5. Environmental and sustainable considerations.
Art ownership

Since the Artwork was created for a business purpose, the City of Palmerston owns it.

This means that they hold the copyright, allowing them to use, copy, and share images or recordings of the Artwork for purposes like advertising, education, or documentaries - provided it's not for making money.

Ownership of the artwork also grants them the rights to decommission, maintain, or relocate the artworks as they see fit.

However, the Artist retains moral rights, which means they should be recognised and credited as the creator of the Artwork.

The Artist affirms that the Artwork is original and not copied from others.
